In the meantime, beers at the White House
“I am a rodeo clown,” says Beck. (Photo: blogs.e-rockford.com)In the aftermath of the Henry Louis Gates alleged racial profiling arrest by Cambridge police officer Sgt. James Crowley, President Obama called for Gates, Crowley and himself to sit down at the White House and have some beers. This came after the president apologized for making the comment that the arrest was “stupid.” On the surface at least, it appears to be Obama’s attempt to make up for implying without evidence that Crowley’s actions were racially motivated. Even a United States president can make that kind of mistake, which should tell you something about the state of race relations in America.
And the president is a big target
Gates’ behavior when confronted by police, as well as Sgt. Crowley’s handling of Gates may have been unfortunate. The president’s off-the-cuff remark was definitely unfortunate. However, when the neoconservative media and liberal media see a tasty meal in front of them, they burst onto the body like fiendish piranha. Glenn Beck, a self-professed “rodeo clown,” is an unfortunately popular neo-con who has come forward with his own brand of senseless drivel. Glenn Beck says Obama is a racist. I say that you should apply for payday loans in Atlantic Beach no faxing and short term loans if your budget is in need. Which one of us is right?
Helping America… that’s Glenn
Mark Silva blogs for the Chicago Tribune that beer time is coming for Obama, Gates and Crowley. The president has backed off his initial remarks about the Cambridge Police Department “acting stupidly,” and he’s more than ready to make their talk over brews about how racial profiling doesn’t help anyone to do their jobs or relate to others in a meaningful way. Yet as you can see in the Fox News video below, folks like Glenn Beck aren’t ready to let go of the leather chew toy. He sees the president himself as someone who practices racial profiling:
This president, I think, has exposed himself as a guy, over and over and over again, who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture, I don’t know what it is. I’m not saying that he doesn’t like white people. I’m saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist.
What does this say about you, Rodeo Clown Beck?
Obama has admitted his mistake. He may have been raised in a culture that preached radical black revolution, but that doesn’t mean that a man cannot turn toward a more reasonable path. Speaking of preaching, the relationship Obama did or didn’t have with Rev. Jeremiah Wright is of great interest on the race relations front. If Wright was Obama’s pastor for 20 years, is it not reasonable to think that he agreed with many if not all of Wright’s views?
However… Obama has moved on. As I see it, he recognizes the mistake he made by giving a hatemonger like Jeremiah Wright the time of day. Yet Glenn Beck doesn’t want us to forget Obama’s mistakes and pays no heed to his recoveries. The former makes for good ratings. The latter would force Glenn Beck to have to admit that he was wrong. Apparently rodeo clowns are only schooled in using that part of the truth that spruces up their act.
And what does this prove about Fox?
This is the type of discourse Fox endorses, under the guise of allowing their commentators to speak freely. Bill Shine, Fox’s Senior VP of Programming for FOX, puts it this way: “During Fox & Friends this morning, Glenn Beck expressed a personal opinion which represented his own views, not those of the FOX News Channel. And as with all commentators in the cable news arena, he is given the freedom to express his opinions.”
What a crock. Of course they endorse the opinion, as do their sponsors. If their sponsors didn’t they’d start to back out, then Beck would be reprimanded or fired. Fox endorses what makes them money, just like any neo-con or liberal news network. Let’s not kid ourselves. Freedom of speech and mass media play at walking hand in hand in America, but it’s a mirage. The flow of money dictates what freedoms are allowed.
Speaking of flow of money, payday loans in Atlantic Beach no faxing and short term loans are available right here. Apply now and keep your network on the air, budgetarily speaking.
Racial profiling: anger, unrestrained
I believe it is fair to say that the majority of people who insist that race shouldn’t be an issue in the day-to-day politics of this nation are people who have never had to face racial profiling or other kind of derision for their minority status. Generally, this means white people like myself. I’d like to see a day when we can make decisions about others based upon knowledge rather than ignorance, but I don’t expect it to ever happen. We human beings are animals, and that means there will always be some form of violent conflict. As humans evolve slowly, don’t hold your breath waiting for our next form.
I think that Colin Powell phrased what I’m thinking in a beautifully succinct way when he recently spoke to Larry King about racial profiling. He admitted to King that he too had been subjected to it “many times.” He suggested that perhaps Gates could have approached the situation with a little bit less righteous indignation. Ultimately, he tells us that “anger is best controlled.” Exactly. It is within our evolutionary capacity to quell it, if but for a time. But if Glenn Beck doesn’t get his Cookie Crisp, I wonder if he’ll be able to quell the anger that led him to shout down a recent called and possibly put him at risk of stroke (see 2nd video, below).
