Electric car future charged by WattStation with intelligent grid tech

WattStation is the new electric car charging station that was announced by General Electric. The time is reduced by two thirds that it takes to charge a 24 kWh battery. For home and commercial use the WattStation could be used for.

Technology for the WattStation

Smart-grid technology is used with the WattStation charging unit. Extra energy is delivered to areas of high demand with the two way digital control intelligent grid has. Combined with superconductive transmission lines, the smart-grid tech can pull the extra energy required to charge batteries quickly.

WattStation – is it really going to work?

. Generally twelve to eighteen hours are required to charge an electric car. Although the time is slowly being reduced, electric car batteries still take twelve hours at the very least to charge.

Challenges of electric car batteries

Getting enough power to run a car is the biggest problem for electric cars. The battery will only be able to charge so quickly, no matter what it is made with. Electric transmission systems and lines can only given out a certain amount of power at one time. WattStation supposedly found a way to fix this problem.

Is WattStation something buyers are interested in?

Electric cars are always something that car makers have had troubles with. Only certain individuals are going to be interested electric cars despite the fact that the market is getting larger. Long charging times and questionable battery technology make it much more attractive to stay with gas-powered cars for most buyers. GE hopes that, combined with new cars and better battery technology, the WattStation will encourage buyers to make the leap to electric.
